No Country for Women?

The Shameless man!
Woman – She is the sole reason for our existence and she is the sole reason for our survival. No man could ever become great without a woman, and there will be no man without her. But that’s a fact that we have taken for granted as we have started to ignore the atrocities being done on woman all around us.

Some incidents happen and are forgotten, and some others though are forgotten as well, they prove a certain point and they throw a question at us. Such is unfortunate incident which happened some days back at Guwahati. Around 30 men with not even a hint of shame, molesting a girl in public with hundreds of people watching it happen and not giving a damn about it. The incident has drawn large public outrage but has also put forths  some questions – Is this country no longer safe for women? Do the men of this country have no respect left for women?

What happened at Guwahati came to light because it was recorded (although many think it was a really unethical thing to record it), but had it not been recorded it would have been another chapter just like several others which don’t even come to notice and are buried somewhere deep down in the hearts of the sufferers. But does that lessen the impact of being molested or harassed? No, it doesn’t! Women with whom these things happen choose to hide it (What other choice do they have given the hypocritical attitude of our society) because they know this society blames the woman for every thing that happens. In retaliation, some women became the bandit queen’s in front of the world (not that they wanted too), and some became in their own lives putting aside what has happened to them and trying to move on!

There’s a friend I’ve, who moved to a metro city post her masters for a job in one of the software companies. We don’t stay in touch that much, but we’re the best of friends. One day, I gave her a call. She seemed happy as ever but I could sense of tinge of sadness in her voice. I asked her the reason, she didn’t say anything. On not letting it go, she finally told me. She told me that something had happened to her when she was on her way back home. She just told me, “Some guy did something on the bus to me and I don’t want to talk about it. Others on the ride didn’t even give a damn! They just kept watching!” That girl whom I always knew to be sensitive developed a certain hatred, hatred against the society because of that incident. She abused which she never did and she cried while telling me about it. When I told her to complain about it, she got scared and instead told me not to tell anyone about it. But then that's not her mistake, that's the lack of support the woman in our lives have from our side. They know, nobody is going to do anything about it!

There’s a famous dialogue from one of the movies – with great power comes great responsibility. But do people in our country really understand that? It’s a common sight to see goons disguised as politicians having their way with things. And there are people who are close to these politicians and do the same thing. One of my friends who works in a company in Delhi faced the brunt of this power sometime back. As she was returning to her office from a meeting, a car with a red light (it was a government vehicle) over its top, dashed against her car. The moment that happened, the driver came out and hurled abuses and started beating her in broad day light. The gentleman (a top PR executive in one of the nationalized banks) who was at the back seat didn’t feel the need to come out. And when he did, he declared that it was the girl’s mistake and tried to scare her away by flaunting his political connections. It was only when her friends came; she was relieved as they took her to the police station to complain against it. This incident was being watched by hundreds of people passing by, but none of them bothered to help her out!

I’m sure there are plenty of incidents which happen almost everyday and go unnoticed. The problem is not that that they go unnoticed, the problem is that they happen and we are mute spectators to it. If you’re saying no, look around and you’ll realize you’re wrong. Are we waiting for it to happen to our sisters or mothers? Is that when we’ll act and retaliate? A dirty hand laid on a woman in any part of the country is not only a hand on her integrity but also on our integrity and respect as well. The middle class man of India can’t do much they say. It may be right in one way, but it’s not right entirely. He may be weak but he is also the person who runs the largest democracy in the world. If he can’t retaliate, he certainly has the choice - a choice to not be a mute spectator to any atrocity. He has the choice to keep them safe and stand for them. It's time to take a stand against atrocities against women, for they are where our world really is!

The person writing this post is a middle class man and he refuses to take any kind of injustice against women.

Unforgettable moments : A day without you, still close to you!

Even when you're not there, I feel your fingers clutched with mine! Image Courtesy : Google Images

I can't remember the last time I spent some quality time with her. Even though I did meet her for a couple of minutes some days back, but that doesn't count. Does it? It doesn't, especially when any amount of time spent with that one special person seems very less. When I last met her, I wanted to talk more. I wanted to tell her how much I missed her and even though she would never feel the way I feel for her, she means the world to me. But then again, the same thing happened. Every time I see her, I somehow lose my power to say anything. Blame it on the twinkle in her eye; I’m just too dumbstruck when around her. We talked a little bit and then I drove back home. I thought of her when I reached home, till I could  keep my eyes open and again I dreamt of her when I was sleeping. I had a tiring week but the dream made the difference. When I woke up in the morning, for some unknown reason I had a smile on my face. I took my cell phone, saw her picture and smiled to myself again. And the day just started to seem far better than the other odd days.

That day I wrapped up my work at the office a little early. With monsoons hitting it out finally, the air was just too romantic and I missed her every minute. I wanted to meet her, but knew she would not be able to meet. I dropped the idea of calling her and decided to go back home. As I drove my bike, it started to rain. As the tiny drops of water touched me, it was like God was infusing in me more and more love for her. There’s one amazing thing about rain – It makes you happy and very often reminds you of a person who makes you happy. I kept driving and even though I couldn’t meet her, I wanted to think about her. I wanted to  her to be on my mind all the time. It gave me butterflies every time and I simply loved the feeling.

Getting all wet in the rain, I went to a nearby lake. The usually crowded place was deserted a little bit. All I could see was some couples taking shelter and trying to save themselves from getting wet. I saw a guy taking off his jacket and putting it over his girl’s head to save her from the rain. The girl giggled and looked in his eyes. Her eyes said it all, ‘I love you so much!’ God, I so wanted to live that moment with the girl I love so much! As I sat there, getting wet in the rain; a couple drove past me. The girl on the back seat spread her arms, looked in the sky as the rain kissed her. The guy kept driving watching her in the mirror and occasionally tried to scare her by driving a little rashly just to make the girl hold him very tight. It was a picture perfect moment, a moment every body in love deserves. I imagined if it was with me. Man, I would just fall in love with her all over again, watching her enjoying the rain like this and having that serene joy on her face. She would look adorable, just as my dream was taking shape; it was broken by a realization. She hates it when it rains! I couldn’t never understand why, but yeah if it would have been in my hands, I would have stopped the rain once it for all just because she hates it!

I went back to the office as I wanted to pick up some stuff. Just when I collected all of it and was about to leave, I stopped. There was a photo we had together. I felt a sudden urge to see it. It was our first snap. I didn’t know her that well then (well, that didn’t change the fact that I was in love with her the second I saw her). I went to my terminal and clicked on the image. What a fine day it was! Some of my close friends and well wishers (Well wishers – Those who knew that I had bitter experiences in the past when it came to love) told me not to talk much to her and let her feel that I don’t give a damn to anything and I just don’t care and that I live on my terms. I nodded in agreement and yet whenever I was with her, I did the exact opposite thing like a puppy struck in love. I gave her all the attention, it came from my heart. Of some more snaps we have, that snap is my favorite! I saw it again and again and still the greed to see it again lasted. She didn’t know my feelings back then and that makes it all the more amazing!

As I left office, I plugged in my ear phones and started to drive back home. The song, ‘Nothing’s gonna change my love for you’ was on loop and it did exactly what I wanted, made me smile and took me more close to her, made me fall more in love with her. As I reached home, I sat with my mother. My mum was watching a sitcom, which apparently she would talk about a lot. I hated it, I still do but I sat to watch it, because it’s her favorite. I remembered how she would talk about it; she thought I was listening to her while I just needed a reason to look in her eyes. After the sitcom was over, I had my food and left for my friend’s place. I bored him to death by talking about her. I told him, how much I cared for her and how much I love when I lose the war of words with her. He kept listening, he’s a good friend and he knew this day would come. It was typical me in love. As I settled down on the bed, I looked back at the day. She really wasn’t with me, but in a way she was; in every moment of the day.

The next morning when I woke up, I realized I dreamt of her again and I thought, ‘Oh boy! It’s going to be a great day again!’

Sometimes you really don’t need to be around the person to be in love, just the memories and the dreams are enough!

Stay blessed and be in love! :)

Unforgettable moments: That realization

You brought love in my life again!
How often we commit the same mistake again and again? And how often we’re warned by the ones who care and love for us? Well, every single time. But, what if you want to do the mistake? What if it’s just not a mistake to you? It’s a thing which you always lived for and is a thing which will always be important to you…

Love – The four letter word has kept my life complex from the very beginning. It has caused me my share of hurt but the hunger for it never died, nor did it change my opinion about the feeling. There’re several people I see around, broken and shattered in love. But what’s more painful is the opinion they’ve made about the feeling after being betrayed. Some person told me and offered me the enlightenment which I never agreed to, when he said, “The best way to get over this hunger is to just sleep around with people and keep emotions aside.” I could never understand one thing – How can lust be a solution to a broken heart? And these people talk about love when they’re drunk and abuse their exes! Such a shame!

But, somehow I never changed. It would be a lie to say that this lusty solution offered by my friend didn’t cross my mind, but I knew I would never do it, never in my entire life. So I kept waiting for the ‘one’, for the right girl and the one whom I could shower with all the love in the world. I complained, but I never gave up the hope. My close friends have always called me, ‘The idiot in love!’ I won’t blame them, I have been that! But I love being that, that’s something I’m best at.

After a relationship of mine, where the girl left me ( She still thinks I bought the reason – ‘You don’t deserve me!’), I decided - I’ll wait for love to come, and I won’t rush into it. It took me one year to get over her and may be some days for her. I decided, I’ll take my friends advice – I’ll be careful and won’t fall for anybody for a long time now. But love never gives you a choice, does it? It happened again, and I didn’t even realize. I just fell for her, unknowingly, crazily and never to stand up again.

When I saw her for the first time, it brought a smile to my face for some reason. While her beautiful black eyes complimented her fair complexion, the fragrance she wore brought freshness in my life. Her dressing sense was perfect – Whatever she wore, she wore it with style. As we shared days and moments together, we became good friends. After a long time, I felt happy – by just being around her. They say girls bitch more, but I loved bitching more than anything else when I used to be around her. Have you ever experienced this? You keep listening to the girl you like, but you don’t know what she’s saying – because you’re just too much in love with her voice! I would eagerly wait for her to come and if she would leave early, I would make sure that my eyes be on her till she vanishes. Every text message of hers brought a smile and every thought of her made me even closer to her. I knew what I was heading to; it was quite predictable of me. But I kept telling my self, ‘She’s just a good friend and it should be only that’, because I knew I could never have her. But does it really work? It doesn’t!

For a long time, I thought she was one of my closest friends, sure I did flirt with her all the time but I somehow felt that I could keep my emotions aside. And that’s where I was proven wrong, when one day I realized that she being around me was not a permanent thing. She had a different path designed for her and that’s what was best for her. At that moment, when I came to know that – I realized, I always loved her, right from the first day itself. Bringing a smile to her was like a mission for me which I always wanted to accomplish at any cost. That realization where I felt that limitless love for her was a special moment. After my failed relationship, I always had this question – Will I be able to love again? She gave the answer when she came in my life!

It was quite clear - It doesn’t matter that you get the person of your dreams. The feeling of love is also something which only a few can experience! And if you get it because of somebody who cannot be permanant in your life - It's all worth it!

Unforgettable moments : Her smile!

She was not at her cheerful best today. The beautiful smile which made my day everyday was replaced with a frown. Her eyes which generally wore kohl were undressed today and it seemed like she cried the entire night. She looked weak. She had mentioned that she wasn't well but I knew it, that the weakness I could see on her face was not because of her health, but because of the stress she was going through. Call it stupidity, but I couldn't help but wonder, how could she look so beautiful even when she was sad. It was the natural beauty which appealed to me. There's a beautiful thing about sadness, it brings out the inner person. And there she was - Soft and sensitive, something she had been hiding the whole time from me behind her 'Nothing can break me attitude!' It was pretty apparent - deep down she needed someone to take care of her, someone to make her feel special and someone who would anything for her, just anything! But that was her problem - she wouldn't let people enter that inner circle her life that easily. Call it a defence mechanism which she developed over the years to sustain the emotional hurt.

She always have had a opinion - There's nobody who can understand her, something which we all think as we tend to overlook that one person who will never say a word but will understand you. That one person who will never expect anything in return but will die for you. I always felt like that person in her life. Given the time frame since I've known her which is very short, I feel a strong connection with her always - so much so that, a hint of sadness in her life makes me equally sad and sends a feeling of restlessness in me. A feeling which compells me to do whatever it takes to make her happy, to make a joke out of myself just to bring that beautiful smile back again. There's something mysterious about her which makes me want to know about her more and more. Sometimes I feel her life is  a bigger master of suspense than a Alfred Hitchcock thriller. Of course I've no plans of confessing what I feel, or let's just say I don't want too, ever!

I couldn't see her sad for long, so I went to her and started cracking some real pathetic jokes. Not that I did now know that they were pathetic, but I was ready to come across as a person with a bad sense of humour to make her smile somehow. It worked! She smiled telling me that I'm a crazy person. There's a crazy thing which happens when you like somebody, whatever they call you - you find it cute. It goes like this. She smiles and tell you, 'You're such an idiot!'. In your head, you talk to yourself, 'God! I love being called an idiot by her!' Needless to say, I found it cute too as I told myself, 'Yes I'm the craziest man on the planet, crazy about you.' As we started talking, she kept smiling. I tried looking in her eyes, but she looked away. Don't you love it when that special girl smiles, and looks into your eyes? There's an instant connection which cannot be defined, but it is there; even if for a second. Sitting next to her was a treat as I noticed every single thing about her. How her nose gets a little more sharp when she gets angry, how her lips shrink a little bit when she's talking about a thing which upsets her and how her eyes glow up with a smile the second she starts talking about a thing which she loves. It's as if her eyes do all the talking.

As I sat back and started to work again, I stole a glance at her and saw her smiling face. The small lovely moments which one experiences at every point in life are the ones which are the most treasured ones. And that smiling face, was my treasure of the day! My most precious treasure!

Unforgettable moments : A trip to remember

End of the world and two best friends!
The problem with the most amazing moments you have in your life is that they can’t ever be told in the exact same way. Such was a trip I took with my friend Namit some 5 years back to Pune and Goa. Basically some 10 guys planned the trip, but after every other friend of ours dumped the plan, I and Namit still decided to go for it. The very best trips are the ones which are unplanned and this trip was no exception. 19 year olds, best friends and planning to have an awesome time, it looked perfect. There was just one thing - we had some surprises on the way!

We’re going, no matter what!
I had informed my family (I didn’t ask for permission) that I’ll be going to Goa, but I didn’t tell them when. After we decided on the day, I told my dad that I’m going on the very same evening. I suffered hell for it and heard sentences like, “Am I your dad, or you are mine?” But I survived it. Namit’s boss gave him a choice: “If you work, it’ll be good. If you go on a holiday now, don’t come to the office again!” He chose the later one and we were on our way.

Roadie Ranvijay
Touchdown Pune and we felt like the Dil Chahta Hai guys, there was just one difference – They had the Merc and we were walking! It was one of our friends birthday, So we went to a pub named, ‘Sohos’ And just when we were some pints down, I heard some girls screaming. I looked back to realize, it was MTV VJ Ranvijay who had come in to party! I told Namit (who was really high) “Abey woh dekh, Ranvijay!”, but he just wasn’t in a mood to give a damn. When he realized, we not only got a picture but we got a chance to share the dance floor with him for a while.

King of good times!

We got robbed
Well not literally. We went to a mall with some of our friends. A tarot card lady in the mall claimed to tell the future in 250 buck per person. I went for it and so did 4 of our friends. I had to pay all 1250 Rs for it. Reason – I can’t say a freaking no!

Destination Goa
Destination Goa and we made it. After falling prey to a guy who rented us a place for a bit higher, we were in the best of our moods. We needed a bike now to repeat what had been done in DCH. I could have settled for any but my dear pal wanted something different as he said, “We should get a CBR, I’m sure somebody will rent us that.”

Goa at last!

Bus ride
Never take a city tour in a bus when you’re in Goa. We got on a bus, just to realize, we were the only ones what one may call, ‘Youngsters.’ Middle aged men, crying kids and over caring aunties surrounded us on the Bus. The guide told us stories about how several films have been shot in Goa which bored us to death and the bus driver seemed to be the busiest man as he would never let us finish our drink whenever we stopped at a place. It was only when we took the uncles on the bus on our side by the jokes we are ashamed of today, we were relieved. Then, we kept drinking and the uncles kept threatening the driver whenever he tried to hurry up!

He wanted to eat it like Aamir Khan but the fish didn't allow it, as it stinked a lot!

We got robbed again
This time, literally! Remember how Namit wanted a CBR? Well we got a guy named ‘Rafique’ who promised us to rent it. Looking at the guy, one can tell for sure that he can’t rent a bicycle for sure! But we trusted this heavenly angel. He asked for 300 bucks and told us that he’ll give us the mean machine in the evening and we’ll have to give him another 300. We agreed and he gave us his phone number and he showed us a house what he claimed to be his house. The number is not reachable till date. When we realized, that we have been fooled, we were drunk and shouting ‘Rafique’ again and again standing near his house, till some monster looking man came out and shouted back at his, which made us to escape!

Narrow Escape
After we got a bike (we got a red coloured Pulsar on rent from somewhere else which kept making weird noises), we headed towards the Tito’s pub where we thought we could get a date. A guy apparently told us, “You just gotta pay their bill too and they will come with you and dance with you!” Desperate, we went there just to find many other guys like us trying to do the same! We drank till death and then Namit did what he always does after drinking, “Gadi main chalunga!” I had to surrender! On our way back home, we came across some traffic cops who tried stopping us, just to hear some abuses from my dear friend! Within a fraction of second, the cop tried hitting us with his wooden stick, it went some one inch away from my butt and I heard the noise, ‘Zzzuppp!’ Shit scared, we drove back to the guest house even as Namit kept saying, “Abe kya fattu hain be tu!”

Way back to Nagpur!
After endless drinking and unexpected surprises, it was time to go home. We got a guy who booked our train tickets and we were on our way to the railway station, the four wheeler got punctured. Somehow we made it to the station. We had train which would take us to Thane and then a train from there which would take us to Nagpur. On our way to thane, I told Namit to rest for a while, he replied back, “You’re such boring person man, I want to see the beautiful scenes of Goa!” I respected his wish and went to sleep! We reached Thane, just to realize that the ticket guy forgot to give us the ticket from Thane to Nagpur! Short on cash, we wondered what we would do next!

I was happy even when the four wheeler got punctured!

We got beaten in every way!
After hopping on a few trains, we realized that Howrah express is the one we should be on and which the ticket guy must have chosen for us. Thinking that our name must be on the list of the TTE we sat in the train just to realize it was the wrong train! Now we told the TTE our sad story and he allowed us to stand near the window on one condition as he said, “Don’t open the door, the general class people will hop into this compartment then I’ll have to kick you guys out with them!” We abided by it on the next station when someone kept knocking on the door, just to know after a minute that it was the railway police! An old police cop came in and hurled abuses at Namit. Meanwhile a young one came from another door and started beating him while I stood in a casual way and acted as if, ‘This shit happens the entire time mate!’ I think the young cop sensed it and gave me a tight slap too! After they went away, we decided to sit near the wash basin and continue our journey! Namit who wanted to see the beautiful scenes was now very sleepy. The night was a nightmare. Every half an hour people used to come and wash their hands, sniffed their filthy noses and dropped water drops on us. Every two hours, a particular Bengali guy came in and asked us in a rather taunting way, “Thandi bahut hain na?” In the morning, we thought we were saved knowing we have survived the night! For a kid it was poop time and since both the toilets were occupied, his mother chose to put a newspaper right in front of us and make him shit there!

Home at last!
We were home! Tired, exhausted and out of money! We didn’t even have the money to go home. We spent 21000 bucks in 6 days and were penniless now! But, we were filled in with a certain feeling – a feeling of happiness! We lived those 6 days completely, every moment of it! Unplanned, full of surprises, goof-ups, it many not a perfect trip for other people, but for two close friends, it was something special! That trip brings a smile to my face whenever I think of it and I vividly remember every bit of it. It made me more close to the person who was and who is one of the best buddies I have! It changed my life, for good, for I realized that the best of things come unexpected!

This post is a dedication to that buddy of mine whom I certainly can’t do without – Namit Verma!

Keep smiling and cherish your friends!

Unforgettable moments : A Dream date

Imagine your first date with the girl you love the most on St.Valentines Day itself, most people will wonder, "What's so special in that, a million would have had a date like that?" Well try to imagine this - Your first date with the girl you love the most on St.Valentines day, Your girl crossing a thousand miles for the date, spending the day with you and returning back the very same day, 6 hours of togetherness with a promise of a lifetime, all of this when you meet each other for the very First time!

Confused? Try reading out the tale of of the lovliest date ever..

Anushka and Rajiv became friends through a mutual friend, who - was a medium set up by God himself to make them meet. Anushka was from Delhi and Rajiv was from Nagpur, a thousand miles apart. From sharing jokes online to Pj's through text messages Rajiv tried everything to impress her,to get her attention. And hell, Rajiv got it! Rajiv proposed her on 21st Nov, after a long session of trying to avoid the situation while blushing, she said a "YES!" And here they were, in a soulful pact with each other,a pact to give each other all the happiness and love. The flames of love started burning bright. The cupid had struck and he made them fall madly in love with each other. A love free from every selfish need. They never saw each other, they never met each other! Still they fell in love! Soon the mobile network "Airtel" found half of it's revenue coming from them with the phone calls never coming to an end. People around started wondering if they both were planning to build a nuclear weapon together by talking so intensly for hours. It went on and on until it was two and half months.

The fire was burning inside. The fire to see each other, meet each other. But how? Moreover Valentines day was coming over, they had to be together in some way.For others, mostly God builds the way,but for them Anushka did! She already decided and she booked a ticket for Nagpur. She had nobody in Nagpur but just Rajiv, still she decided to come trusting him with everything. He was flatterred and all in love with her again. Here it was 'Their first date on St.Valentines day itself, the dream date'.Rajiv thought, "I'll be watching her for the first time. I'll be meeting her for the first time. I've to look at my best and make it special for her". For a moment he felt like a 5 year old going to get wet in the rain for the first time.Yes'it was the rain of his life. The rain of love..

With her favourite orchids and carnations in his hand, he went to the airport. He was damn nervous and may be that's why he asked everybody on his way to the airport , "Am I looking ok?".When love is in the air everybody can feel it and that's what happened to Rajiv throughout the day.A man looking at him and the flowers in his hands asked him,"Girlfriend?,Valentines day?". Trying to control the blush, he said,"Yeah, how do you now ?".The man replied back,"I can see it on your face man!".

Back there in the flight his princess was receiving tips to relax from a fellow lady sitting besides her who could see her nervous too.

She came, she conquered and she became the queen of his life just in one moment when she came out of the airport. His jaw dropped as he thought of her as the most beautiful girl ever.He gave her the flowers which she accepted with her eyes refusing to look at him. Trying to make a conversation Rajiv asked her, "How are the flowers?". "Beautiful",she said blushing away bringing the colour of love on her cheeks. "Has to be,they are for a beautiful girl",Rajiv said still stunned at her beauty.

She sat on his bike keeping her hand on his shoulders .Rajiv took her to a nearby CCD where he already made an arrangement for a table. He made her see a note of love written for her on a board featuring messages by lovers as a surprise for their special someones .Afterwards he gave a her big card with poems written by him on everyside of it below her photo which he himself had pasted. She had tears in her eyes as she read -

"Oceans deep and long,
affection soothing and warm,
In this fill of liar,
your truth I admire,
Innocence of a child,
Stength of the wild,
Naughtyness the spice,
Is what i see in your eyes!"

A few lines completely describing her.

The manager of the cafe was a friend of Rajiv and he convinced him to play songs of his choice(Ofcourse they were all Anuskha's favourites). As the song "Dilko tumse Pyaar Hua" started playing,he started singing it for her holding her soft hand in his hands.People around them stopped doing everything as they watched the couple getting lost in each other.A group of school guys and girls looked in and smiled as Rajiv kissed Anushka on her cheeks after the song. He kept telling her how beautiful he found her,how much crazily he was in love with her.Their eyes met for a second making them nervous even more than before. They were setting the house on fire with the flames of love burning brightly as everybody become a witness to it.

As they walked out of the coffee house, Anushka sat on Rajiv's bike again,it was more special because she had never been on a bike with anyone before. They saw some anti-valentine's day protestors people trying to stop them, But may be even they got charmed by the fragrance of the couple's love .They let the couple go without saying anything. As they roamed around the whole day on the bike, Rajiv showed her the places which were dear to him until it was time for her to go back again.

She boarded the flight. They both had tears of joy for they realised that they were soulmates now.Rajiv's cell phone beeped as he saw the text message from her -

"Lifetime membership confirmed. Thanks for coming in my life.I love you baby"
